Phil Chawner, Voyage Care

Voyage Care is a UK wide company with over 25 years’ experience of providing healthcare, social care and support to a range of vulnerable people with disabilities and associated problems. We offer a range of support and care services within community based and care home environments. We have a national reputation for delivering innovative, high quality, responsive and flexible services so are naturally very particular about the partners and suppliers we work with. My role fits in as part of our capital development department, working closely with the property team and stakeholders on new builds and high value refurbishments to existing property portfolio and also new acquisitions. Voyage now operate in the region of some 400 properties. All of our development schemes are designed and managed in-house, working with selected, carefully chosen partners like On The Level.

I first heard about On The Level around 4 or 5 years ago. We were working with one of their competitors, a very large company, when one of our surveyors recommended that I talk to On The Level, as he had worked with them on a few projects and felt that they had several advantages over the company we were then using. Having worked with them now on several projects, I certainly agree. The two things that really stand out for me in terms of OTL are firstly that they have the most fantastic, personal customer service – nothing is too much trouble. Secondly, the big difference that I have noticed in working with them as opposed to their competitors, is that they are real problem solvers. I notice this particularly on major refurbishment projects. Whereas before, we would have to work around competitors’ standard, off-the-shelf products, with OTL they are really flexible – great at anything out of the ordinary or bespoke and in helping us to sort out any tricky issues with good, solid solutions that work cost-efficiently. Their product quality is excellent and their bespoke service doesn’t come at the cost of a good price – their prices are always solidly competitive.”
